NEWS OF THE DAY

Vayam Awarded with Projects by MoHFW

Vayam has been awarded with two new projects by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for the implementation of additional requirement, i.e., New Monthly Formats and enhancement of the HMIS Application.

The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW) has in place an elaborate Monitoring and Evaluation system, namely Health Management Information System (HMIS) to monitor and evaluate the impact of its health programmes and provide key inputs to policy formulation and interventions.

The web-based data entry application was initially designed for capturing data of various health indicators under NHM Program from the district level. Most of the districts started reporting data regarding performance of health indicators at the district level and the solution was stabilized by the end of FY 2009-2010 with regular data entry. At that point, MoHFW extended the system for capturing data at the grassroots level, i.e., the health facility level where the services are actually rendered to the patients. The facility level formats were introduced in 2010. At the onset, few states started reporting performance indicators’ data at the facility level. There was a significant increase in the number of reporting units. There are approx. 700 districts and 2 lacs health facilities. Initially the application was scaled up on the same hardware infrastructure to support the requirement. Current infrastructure was performing fine till few states started reporting data in the system. As of today, all major states are reporting information from the facility level. This has generated a need for revising infrastructure and technology upgrade for application.

During the operations of current HMIS application, MoHFW conducted workshops with stakeholders from various states who are providing health indicator information on a regular basis. On the suggestions and feedback during these workshops, improvements and enhancements in the HMIS application were planned. Present data entry application has been planned to be enhanced for supporting additional requirements and providing improvements by upgrading technology.

Best Wishes to the team deploying this project!
